Another one of my meditative pieces. This Pink palimpsest I, ink and gouache on Mingeishi White Washi paper abstract art piece explores colour harmony, mark-making and feelings of joy and warmth.
This is a joyous piece, combining colours and brush strokes that make me smile. A palimpsest is a manuscript or piece of writing material on which later writing has been superimposed or earlier writing has been erased. I was inspired by this as an idea and make many works with this as my focus. I layer colour and line to build a story.
I make these abstract pieces in a mindful, meditative state. Working in deep concentration, I focus on the act of mark-making and the effect that gouache, ink and water has on the delicate washi paper surface; the buckling, blurring, bleeding and deep absorption is all part of the artwork.
This A4 abstract art piece has been made with Japanese calligraphy brushes on Awagami Factory, very, very delicate 48gsm Mingeishi paper. While, still super delicate and light, Shirakaba paper is one the heavier types of washi paper. It is long lasting and 100% acid free.
This is hand-painted, signed, and dated and will comes with an artist note.
