Colour and the theme of summer has been so prevalent in my work of late. This Summer Memories sumi-e inspired painting is no exception; it is an exuberant piece that reflects the heat, light and shade of a warm, sunny day.
This expressive abstract art work is deliberately bright and lively. It was created on super absorbent Awagami washi rice paper. The quality of the paper means that ink dries quickly onto the paper, forcing you to work quickly and expressively. When working with this material you must commit to the marks you make. This results in a spontaneous, spirited art work that, for me, works as a time capsule; capturing a particular expressive moment of my life in one unique art piece.
The delicate washi paper surface really holds the colour of the ink and gouache; the blurring, bleeding and deep absorption is all part of the artwork.
This original art work measures 20.5cm × 25.5cm and been made with Japanese calligraphy brushes. It is hand-painted, signed, and dated and will comes with an artist note.
