Description
I made “The Party” in confinement, so I wanted to remember the fun I had a parties. For me it seeks to convey the hub-bub and convivial atmosphere of a social gathering
This is a jubilant, euphoric piece. I have used ink and gouache colours and brush strokes that exude joy.
The work is a continuation of my palimpsest pieces. A palimpsest is a manuscript or piece of writing material on which later writing has been superimposed or earlier writing has been erased. “The Party” is also inspired by this as an idea as a large social gathering is a collection of conversations, interactions, encounters and stories.
I made this colourful abstract art piece in a mindful, meditative state. It is inspired by Japanese Sumi-e painting and the choice of paper is deliberate. I focus on the act of mark-making and the effect that gouache, ink and water has on the delicate washi paper surface; the immediacy of the mark-making, the blurring, bleeding and deep absorption is all part of the artwork.
This piece has been made with Japanese calligraphy brushes on Awagami Factory washi paper. It is long lasting and 100% acid free.
This is hand-painted, signed, and dated and will comes with an artist note.
